Westlaw Gets Punk'd

by PG

Today's point-winning opportunity on LexisNexis requires one to know nothing except that Lexis is massively superior to Westlaw. Sample questions:

6. Which research system provides headnotes that are comprised soley of the court’s own language which helps eliminate the possibility of misinterpretation or misleading analysis?
A. LexisNexis
B. Westlaw

7. Which legal research system’s headnotes are not comprised soley of the court's own language and have been criticized by the judiciary for their focus and language?
A. LexisNexis
B. Westlaw

Yeah - Lexis is so cool, they gave away all our social security numbers to identity thieves. How awesome.

I always knew Lexis was low rent, but this is ridiculous.

Hey, I got 200 points for taking that quiz! That's like, one-third of a $10 Blockbuster card or something. As long as they keep the free stuff coming, I don't care how lame the quizzes are!

heh. The reason Lexis headnotes use the court language is because they just hire monkeys to cut and paste. Wow, impressive. Westlaw actually has attorneys read the case and distill the legal point into a readable headnote. If you get in trouble by relying on a headnote you're an idiot. They're for assisting research. The court language itself is always authoritative.

"ss" may be correct, but it should be noted that s/he came to this post through a technorati search for "westlaw and headnotes" and visits from the westgroup.com domain.
