Ohio Has Double-Gay Day

by Chris Geidner

Friday brought two victories to supporters of GLBT equality, as two courts issued rulings supporting equality.

The first ruling, issued by Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Daniel Hogan, dealt a blow to those seeking a constitutional amendment limiting marriage to a man and a woman. Although the state already declares same-sex marriages to be against the strong public policy of the state, supporters of a petition drive don't think that's enough. Hogan, however, wrote that the proposed summary of the initiative was "misleading, not fair and not truthful," according to the Ohio News Network. David Langdon -- a Cincinnati attorney who has been behind much of the anti-gay activity in Ohio over the past decade -- argued the case for the supporters of the initiative. Election lawyer Don McTigue argued for the opponents of the initiative.

The second ruling, by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Robert Glickman, upheld Cleveland Heights' domestic partner registry against a challenge brought by a city council member there. The attorney who argued the case for Jimmie Hicks Jr. was -- surprise -- David Langdon.
